Maybe They Knew

The birds tuned all night long
Constant sound and song
Maybe they knew
The sky would have no blue
I sit on the porch
The rain begins to fall
Drip,drip,drop drop,spitter,splatter
It stops for a second
That fresh rain smell fills the air
The aroma contrasts the pollen
Opens my eyes
Refreshes my soul
The birds hide from showers return
An occasional chirp here or there
“Over here” I hear one say
Chirp, chirp,
Toy toy toy toy toy toy twirl
The sounds just fill the air
The birds have danced the rain away
The air dampens with their song
Heaven has shed some tears
Maybe they knew
Which way the wind blew.
